"Waiting Is - I Grok"

Mid-right you can see the ship in the open nook.
"Steady there wahine."
Admittedly the title of this blog will connect with a certain group of people.  Then again, it also ties in with some of the PUNATIC philosophy like "Go With The Flow," or, "It's Just a Matter of Time."

When we bought our Hawai'i hale (house) early in 2012, Phil saw a little triangular open space in the high wall between the open plan living area and the kitchen. He felt that his model sailing ship, a British Frigate (HMS Victory) would fit perfectly there -- and so it did (see photo.)

I on the other hand, felt that the long beam (16' high) running the length of the house and through the living area would be the place for my own very special piece -- a hand made Hindu wedding canopy we bought from a trader when we owned Many Hands Gallery in Eureka.

It has hand embroidery, tiny mica "mirrors," scenes of Ganesh, dancing wedding couple, Krishna playing his flute, peacocks, Sanskrit blessings and other traditional scenes of India.

For many years it hung in our (built-in 1860) Victorian -- and I had always planned --- to put it up here in our Hawai' house..

(waiting is....) Four years later, we find we ourselves changing all the many light bulbs in the house -- to make our now full-house solar set up the most efficient and thus, now have the appropriate ladder to ALSO (finally) hang up the wedding canopy....kind of a perfect thing for this year's Christmas

Celebrating Christmas with FOUR generations!!!  Grandma REBA-BO-BEBA standing on the side, I"I LANI watching baby TASHA on GREAT GRANDMA's lap.  What a family!!

Church of the Moon

The BIG news today is our blessed rain (Ua), finally arriving after many weeks of none, but posting a photo of our overflowing catchment tank full of 10,000 gallons would only be an absolute thrill to a Puna-tic living on the Big Island of Hawaii, seriously.  So, instead here's a look at the glorious full moon we had a few days ago, after Sacrament, of course (and with a little help from photoshop magic.)

One of my all time favorite earthbound experiences is being in the water at night with the moon overhead.

All the "edges" of everything seem to disappear -- the boundaries between earth and sky, between the air and water, but most especially the boundary between myself and the great All-That-Is. I like this quote I found on-line:
"Never ignore a person who loves you....
One day you may realize you've
Lost the moon while counting stars"
(author unknown)

THEN...I found this really cool artist whose image does seem to capture how it feels to be in the "space between."  I hope you will also visit the LINK to see more of his fabulous images.

His name is Robert Gonsalvez, and this is a LINK to see several of his paintings.  ENJOY  --  Robert Gonsalves Paintings

Who's a "Punatic"

There's a saying that the sun rises first in Hawaii in Puna, and we say we live on the "lower east side."  Both are true!  The air here is amazing -- the caressing trade winds have traveled thousands of miles across the ocean.

See the small yellowish spot in the middle? That's the town of Pahoa, and small as it is, the services include police, fire and DMV.  There are several markets, a Long's (not CVB...yet at least), a good used bookstore, senior center, skateboard park and olympic size community pool.  There are also restaurants, live music, boutiques, banks and a small weekly farmer's market.  There are both emergency medical and family practice available.  And just in case, our next door neighbor is both a mid-wife and nurse practitioner who (after many years of the corporate world of health care) is setting up her own women's' health center on our street!!  (Take a look:   https://sites.google.com/site/easthawaiimidwifeservice/

If you can see the sort of football shaped subdivision just south of the intersection at Pahoa, that's our subdivision -- Leilani Estates.  If you are interested you can do a Google search or Google Images search for either Puna or Leilani Estates to learn more.
